Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy for Depression Class

This class is closed for this semester, check back next semester for the new schedule.

All groups and classes are free and confidential.

The Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy for Depression class is geared toward students who have experienced depression or currently experience depression, and want to develop a plan to lessen effects of future depression.

Featuring research-based approaches, the class explores how thoughts contribute to depressive moods. Mindfulness is the foundation of this class. It is the practice of paying attention purposefully in the present moment. Participants learn how being mindful can help cultivate different responses to depressed moods which can alleviate current symptoms and prevent future symptoms. What's more, the context of the group provides a supportive space in which to develop a personalized way of applying these skills to your life.

Participants will learn:

  • The factors that contribute to depression
  • Skills to handle thoughts and feelings differently
  • Mind/Body practices to manage depression

You don't need a referral for this class; however students do need an individual therapist for the duration of the class. If you are not currently seeing a therapist, we will help you make those arrangements. To sign up or for more information contact CMHC's referral office at (512) 475-6923.
